Lino cut printing on a Winter’s theme

Saturday 18th November 10am – 4pm.

On this workshop, which will take place in the Bradbury Makers Shed in Hillsborough Park, Sheffield, you will learn each stage of the process of lino-cut printing from drawing and cutting out your design, to mixing ink and applying it to your lino. You will also be shown how to use my table top printing press to produce your prints.

Lino-cut printing is very popular and prints created using this technique have a very distinctive look. ‘Soft cut’ lino is easier to work with than wood or traditional lino and is an excellent introduction to block printing in general.

As the workshop is in November I thought it might be nice to use a ‘Winter’ theme for inspiration. To begin, we can look for ideas in the beautiful walled garden that is right next door to the workshop, or if you prefer you can bring along any Winter or Christmas themed imagery, sketches, photos, etc that you would like to work from. If you prefer to work to another theme though of course, this is fine.

We will be using colourful water based inks to print onto a selection of different papers and at the end of the day you will have several original and unique prints to take home and frame. I will also provide cards so you can print your own set of Christmas cards if you like!

Bring your own lunch or alternatively there are many lovely cafes locally where you can buy lunch to take away. We can eat lunch in the beautiful gardens or if the weather isn’t so good we can eat in the studio and continue with our work or sit back for a while, chat and reflect on the morning’s progress.

I will provide homemade cakes and biscuits and tea coffee, juice, etc throughout the day for those peckish moments.

All equipment and materials provided. No previous experience necessary. Workshop is from 10am ’til 4pm.

This workshop is for complete beginners or for those with previous printmaking experience.
