Had a lovely catch up with @iamjennywren including a brief bit of drawing in Hillsborough’s walled garden yesterday, before a downpour confirmed we should retire to the old coach house cafe for yummy coffee and cake.

I went home and had a bit of a play with some simple monoprinting techniques.

I’ll be back at the walled garden/ makers shed tomorrow, from midday for a ‘drop in’ printmaking taster session for @rivelinco.

I’ve had a really good day of being in creative

I’ve had a really good day of being in creative flow. I’m learning so much about how my printed and plain recycled pieces of linen or cotton (or silk screen mesh) can be used together.
Now for some evening sewing with my plus 3 reading glasses and a very bright light!

Work in progress.

I had a very happy day mono printing onto fabric yesterday. Getting very carried away with lots of lines, colours and textures. I was aiming to print lots of pinks and oranges after my time in Hillsborough walled garden this week. I moved on to blues and greens (as always!) including some slightly ‘muddier’ greens than I usually go for.
As part of my research, I’ve been looking at the formal arrangements of the flower beds in the walled garden - starting with the actual arrangements and then playing around with these shapes and Rearranging them. In order to bring order to the somewhat chaotic mono printing on this piece, I was delighted to make use of a massive bag of off cuts of silk screen mesh (@studiowaterhouse will know what this is!)

Today’s job includes attaching the yellow mesh to the printed fabric, probably sewing it…but I’m really pleased with this piece so far….

From my observational drawings of flowers this week, I’m realising there is no limit to the shapes, patterns and incredible colours to be seen. I can’t even begin reproduce many of the colours with the paints I have.

Inspired by my morning with @palimpsestparade Tansy this week, I spent a couple of hours in the walled garden in Hillsborough today.

It’s a lovely, peaceful place and I was very content splodging ink and paint into my sketchbooks.

Today I met up with @palimpsestparade in Sheffield

Today I met up with @palimpsestparade in Sheffields botanical gardens for some drawing, painting, collage, etc in the hothouses.
It was lots of fun chatting about life and drawing the amazing cacti and other tropical foliage. It reminded me of being in Marrakesh with @tessapearsonart and @lara_harwood, @jonewman2, @barbaramansiart and others just over 3 years ago….only it was a tad cooler!

These photos are taken in the worst light (yellow bulb) but you get the idea. I definitely need to get out and draw more. I’m hoping to catch up with Tansy again soon for more drawing and chatting.

It’s about 170 days until my exhibition at @cupo

It’s about 170 days until my exhibition at @cupolacontemporaryart which I’m sharing with @bevseth.

I’ve been slowly gathering ideas, inspired by my local park and thinking about the routes taken around the park, along the pathways (or not).
These drawings from a few weeks ago are quite illustrative. I don’t think my work is going in this direction particularly, but I seem to need to go through this more literal process at the moment, as I work towards my destination.

I’m really pleased with my new website that has been created with ALOT of help from @harveymorton15

It is very much a work in progress (as these things always are) but I love how much easier it is now to find what you are looking for.

I hope others feel the same when they visit it. Do let me know. Is there anything you think I could add?
