Remembering when I was trying out the first ideas for my commission with @sheffhospitalcharity for the adult acute mental health ward.

I’m very keen to begin more woodcuts soon. I love those first stages when there are so many possibilities!

A recent enquiry about block printing on old cloth

A recent enquiry about block printing on old clothes, inspired me to print some designs onto an old blue top that I’d managed to get a stain on, right in the front and centre of it. I’m really pleased with the results. I kept the colours very monochromatic as I felt that would work best with the blue. But I have a white top I’m tempted to try something a bit brighter on next!!

The two techniques I’m using here are the exact ones I’m sharing in my next workshop here in Sheffield. Although we’ll be designing prints for bags and tea towels there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t bring an old item of clothing along as well (cotton or linen would be best) to print onto.

Studio slowly being returned to a working space after two full weekends of @openupsheffield.

It turns out today is #worldcollageday so I’m shar

It turns out today is #worldcollageday so I’m sharing a few collages I can see around me in my studio at the moment.

I love making collages. It’s my way of drawing as I’m not that interested in using a pencil. I like to start with shapes and colours and see where they take me.

I use the prints I’ve created that for whatever reason don’t quite work. It’s a great bit of recycling and sometimes the collages inspire new ideas for prints. So it’s definitely a cyclical process.

I’m opening up my studio this weekend for the second week of @openupsheffield.

Last weekend it was so nice to see visitors and chat about print and art in general, along with all the other random conversations that are so much a part of this wonderful open studio event.

It’s been an exciting week since then with the preview evening for the @prideofyorkshiretrail lions which were all displayed together at Sheffield Arena. I was so chuffed to be amongst so many fabulous artists selected for this.

Also this week my gorgeous girl had her very last day of school ever before, she begins her A level exams which start next week. So much pressure but I wish all the young people best of luck with their exams and to say if they don’t go as you hope don’t worry too much. Life has a way of working out, whatever.

A few weeks ago I was asked by @rivelinco if I could create something colourful, on a Spring/summer theme, that also celebrated nature for two of the windows in their new HQ on Middlewood Road here in Hillsborough, Sheffield.

I love working for RivelinCo and this sort of commission is right up my street. Literally and figuratively speaking!! 😊

The finished work is in situ in their windows now and does look really colourful and fun. It’s amazing how relatively small it looks in the windows, compared to how enormous all the parts sermed when I was working in them in my studio. To the point where I had to overflow into the kitchen to see all the different elements together!
Anyway, you can see it at RivelinCo HQ for the next few months and why not visit this weekend when they are open for @openupsheffield…as am I!! 😁

It’s been lovely meeting the visitors who’ve dropped by so far. So many new faces and a few familiar ones too! Thanks so much to those who have visited and I’m extremely grateful to those who have made a purchase. Even a card makes all the difference!
