Today my job felt like ‘living the dream’.

A leisurely breakfast in the sunny garden.
A leisurely stroll to the tram in the sunshine.
A short journey on public transport to my destination where I had an exciting meeting about a new art and workshops commission.

Now I’m having a think about all the possibilities for this project. So exciting!

I’m currently hunched over my laptop (must remember my posture) updating my website with the aim of sorting out the different categories of art work into clear sections and generally getting much more of my original print work online.

Following in from my last post where I celebrated the happiness I feel creating one off prints, here is the down side of this. Every individual print has to be photographed (well!) and uploaded with details such as dimensions, etc.

I have lost count of how many prints I have wrapped up before taking high quality photographs, only to have to unwrap them again to photograph and re-wrap!

Anyone else do this? Or am I the only one! 😬

Hello!

It’s high time I showed my face on here again as it’s been a while. I’ve been a bit distracted with some life stuff (does it ever end?) and it’s easy to get out of the swing of posting.

So, I thought I’d share a bit of info about who I am and about my work as a full time artist/printmaker and teacher of art/printmaking as I have had a few new follows recently. Thankyou!

A few things about me that you may not know.

I have been working as a full time printmaker for nearly 11 years!! Before that I had a variety of jobs including being a secondary teacher of Art, design and textiles. I was also a waiter, an interior decorator, I worked with multiply disabled adults for some time, I was an apprentice cabinet maker for a very short while and I worked as an art leader in youth clubs. Not in that order!

I met my husband while working as a waiter and decided within about 1 week of meeting him I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. This was 28 years ago….

I was formally diagnosed with ADHD about 2 years ago. It does feel like a lot of things now Make a lot of sense about my life. But I haven’t changed the way I do anything because how I am works for me.

I make mostly woodcut prints along with some linocut and other forms of printing and I like to make collages out of the prints that end up on the ‘not good enough’ pile. My prints are usually one off because I simply cannot do the same print twice. I cannot think of anything more boring because I absolutely love the feeling when you peel back a print to see the unexpected results! Biggest dopamine rush ever!!! Why would you print an edition where you know what the print is going to look like????

That’s my take on it anyway! Controversial? 😂

Back to work after a gorgeous Spa break completing a few wood and linocut prints in advance of submitting work for various events.

I love working in this way, slowly building up the layers of colour and pattern. The challenge is knowing when to stop.

Thanks so much to @joanna.rucklidge for a helpful chat yesterday in my home studio. Jo generously popped over in the evening (despite her very busy schedule) and looking at each others recent work, gave each other a bit of a tutorial/crit in advance of applying for various events coming soon.
It’s interesting and helpful to get another artists perspective and opinion when you work on your own as I do. The only other feedback really is on social media (which is great but visibility is so unpredictable) or at events.

A group of us plan more of these in the near future and I’m really looking forward to it. In the meantime I feel a renewed confidence and certainty about the directions I’m going in after an intense few days of printing.

I’ll share more of my new prints soon. I’ve really enjoyed playing with colour, shape, pattern and texture and hopefully I’ve just about found that delicate balance between harmony and chaos!!

This one-off woodcut print found a new home yesterday, as did several other of my colourful one-off prints.

This @openupsheffield has been really inspiring and fun and I’m thrilled to have met such lovely people who have been keen to ask about my work and really engage with it too.
Thank you so much to those who have chosen my work for their homes. I can’t tell you how lovely it feels when someone’s face lights up when they look at my work. 🥰

It’s the last day and we open at 11am. I’m sharing with the most gorgeous group of woman who have become friends over the past few weeks as we organised all of this. Had a challenge trying to hold my Hillsborough themed greeting cards in my hands and take a photo this morning.

Much easier one by one!
