Inspired by some playful collages I made in my sketchbook, I’ve created these somewhat fanciful colourful abstract linocut prints.

They are making me think of fabulous French cakes, circus balancing acts and poodles! 😂

Been making a lampshade. 😁

The main woodcut block I printed on the fabric for the shade, is one I ‘doodled’ designs onto. I went for lots of different greens when I was printing, as to me, green is the colour of new ideas and hope.

This one is 25cm diameter and I’ll bring it along to @compton_verney print fair, along with a few of my larger shades.

I’ve just been sent more details about where I’ll be setting up at the fair and it’s all looking very exciting!

Shapes, colours, patterns and textures.

I’m loving playing with these new ideas for prints and earrings too!

I just love playing! It’s definitely my favourite part of my job as a self employed full time artist.

Aspects like finishing my work and framing or carefully packaging it, ordering stock, stock checking, promoting my work….less fun, difficult even, but essential I guess!

I do love arranging my work on my stall though and seeing how all the ideas I’ve had work together when displayed. Its certainly always very colourful!
I’ll be doing this again for the first time in a few months at @compton_verney print fair next weekend!

I’m really looking forward to catching up with some fellow printmakers there including @katebrooksprints and @jonmackay73 and meeting some other printmakers I’ve been following on here for ages.

Woodcut printing my lampshades.

This is lots of fun! I have to remember that the print will look completely different once it’s a cylinder shape.

Today’s collage challenge.

Done this evening after a day of lots of things including an afternoon woodcut printing.

Not feeling it quite so much this evening, but decided to stick with the Autumn theme and create a few Autumnal fruits.

I’ll have to start thinking about collages on a more Wintery theme soon, but not yet…..

Sketchbooks.

I always have several of these on the go and I rotate them so I can work in one while paint or glue is drying in the other. Recently I’ve been trying to work into them in a ‘mindless’ way. Literally emptying my mind and then just collaging and doodling onto the pages. I’m finding it’s then a great source for ideas. I’m creating simple wood and linocut blocks and smaller and quicker prints at the moment, using the sketchbook ideas as a springboard.

I’m printing and sketch booking in between my timed collages and as you can imagine my studio is getting very messy! This is when I start to fantasise about having a huge space to work, with different workstations for different activities!

Feeling those Autumn vibes at the moment.

Went blackberry picking yesterday and here’s a blackberry collage to celebrate the ‘season of mists and mellow fruitfulness’.

I’m looking forward to delicious crumbles over the next few weeks.

I’m aiming to make a collage a day for the next week or two, in an attempt to get my creative mojo back after a summer holiday where as always, the routine has been disrupted.

Feel I’ve lost my mojo a bit recently, so I’m setting myself a daily 15 min creative collage challenge, that I did a year or so ago.

I literally had no idea what I was going to create as I began this one today. It became a crab very quickly! 🦀

As often happens over the Summer hols, I’ve got out of the rhythm of making new work and posting on on social media. But as GCSE results were yesterday (and my daughter did brilliantly by the way….whoop!) I feel the time is right to begin getting my creative head back, in anticipation of a return to a routine and also prior to a lot of events and workshops in the run up to the busiest time of year.

I’ll try and do one of these every day for the next couple of weeks at least. Some will hopefully become new cards. 😁
