It’s all about collage for me at the moment.

These grey days feel so grim but my studio is a sanctuary of colour, and shape and texture. Thinking about warm scented gardens and summer walks and gorgeous flowers and buzzing insects as I arrange the different shapes of colourful paper.

I spent yesterday with about 42 Y5 students creating collages. I think my enthusiasm for collage came across. 😂 They are had a good go at making small abstract collages based on details of a local building. For many it was the first time they done much of this sort of activity. So little time for art in schools these days! At the end of the workshop we discussed what collage brings to an artwork. We talked about the instant character a colour or shape can bring to a piece, the surprise of putting two very different textures or types of paper together ( juxtaposition) the humour, the frustration, whether drawing is easier…great comments from the children.

I loved seeing their enthusiasm, and today I’m loving absorbing myself in the process just for me.

New notebook from an original honey bee collage!

My ‘Busy Honey Bees’ notebooks are now available on my website. They’ve just arrived this morning from the printers and I’m really pleased with them. Amongst the photos on this post I’ve included the notebook cover design process using photoshop. My least favourite part of the job most definitely, as I’m very much a maker using my hands, rather than a designer using a computer. However it’s wonderful to see the collage reproduced onto lovely Tintoretto Gesso paper covers and the bee is a lovely addition to my other ‘mini beast’ notebooks!

And…would you believe I can’t add the notebooks to the post. They are on my website shop. Link in bio and look for stationery!

Looking everywhere for a carved wood block for hou

Looking everywhere for a carved wood block for hours today (still lost 😥) but I finding a lot of forgotten work. Many half developed ideas that I think I need to look at again.

I could do with a big space to spread all my work out and see it a bit more clearly. It would be good to stand back and see the relationship between my ideas and themes that seem to re-occur. I might find my lost wood block then too.

January round up. It’s the third of Feb & today

January round up.

It’s the third of Feb & today has gone a bit belly up for various reasons. Not least because the plumber due to come and finally sort out our total lack of showering facilities has called in sick. 😫

Anyway, I felt January was the longest month I can remember, but looking back through my photos, there were lots of good things along the way. Much more socialising than usual, lots of walks and joining in with new things like @cwnn_sheffield and @crone_club_reclaiming_crone. Also, lots of website and other admin done and I think I can say I ticked just about everything off my to do list! 🎉

For Feb I’m planning my upcoming school and adult workshops and I’ve other exciting things in the pipeline including @openupsheffield, which I’m doing with a group of other Sheffield artists this year in Sheffield town centre.
I’m also looking forward to my first ever print fair with @sunnybankmills in March. My goodness they do seem like a lovely bunch! It makes such a difference when a fair is professionally organised!!!!!!!!

I am really missing getting creative with collage

I am really missing getting creative with collage and print this week. So far I’ve got bogged down in admin. I guess it is only Tuesday.
Tomorrow I am going to make sure I step away from my laptop!!

I’m excited to be planning a collage workshop for a school in the next 2 weeks and I have just a couple of spaces left on my ‘Fabulous Florals’ workshop in March too. This is going to include printing AND collage activities!

This weekend I’ve had a family ‘print your own

This weekend I’ve had a family ‘print your own lampshade’ workshop with two of my sisters-in-law. It’s been in the planning for about 5 years, so it was great to eventually get together and do this.
It was so interesting to see how differently Sara and Laura approached the whole process. It’s been a weekend of giggles and heart to hearts and good food and fabulous lampshades. Lots of fun!

I am running this workshop again in June if you’d like to join me. I’ll attach more info to this post.

I was racing about running a few errands so couldn’t stop for long, but I noticed how lovely the shop was looking!

I’ve also added lots of my cards to my website now. You can buy in sets of 4 or 10. Postage is free and you can have any combination of cards you like. Just let me know in the order notes.
